In case you want to engage with the conference hosts\, please feel free to reach out to us via  iscram2024@ercis.org. \n  \nThe conference follows a pracademic approach and will be jointly hosted by the ERCIS Competence Center for Crisis Management (C³M) at the University of Münster and the State Fire Service Institute North Rhine-Westphalia (IdF). \n \nConference Vision\nAs seen and discussed in the ISCRAM community in recent years\, the need of “pracademics” became essential to facilitate and further increase high-quality research on information systems in crisis management (CM) and response. Thus\, it appeared to us as a logical consequence to join forces from both the practitioner and scientific communities to promote the ISCRAM mission. Maybe\, 20 years ago such a fusion of practitioners and academics was part of the vision of the ISCRAM founders to promote the research and exchange of knowledge on the design\, use\, and evaluation of information systems in emergency and disaster mitigation\, preparation\, response\, and recovery. In any case: \na “pracademic dual chairmanship” appears to be a perfect proof of 20 years of successful ISCRAM work. \n\nConference Topic\nOur vision for the 2024 ISCRAM edition is to reflect the last 20 years of ISCRAM work and turn it into the future ISCRAM generation through our key competence in process management and modeling. The envisioned topic revolves around the process-centric view on crisis management: “Embracing the Crisis Management Lifecycle”. The idea behind the topic is to emphasize a holistic process view to not only overcome isolated considerations of crisis management actions\, but especially to showcase how important clearly defined roles\, tasks and processes are to enable a proper communication and collaboration between CM practitioners and researchers.

DESCRIPTION:The conference theme “Co-creating Sustainable Digital Futures” reflects that addressing the grand challenges of our world require extended and innovative ways of collaboration. We need to cultivate inter-disciplinary and engaged research and education which is oriented towards today’s major societal challenges\, such as achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN). Digital technologies are central in addressing the SDGs\, and several of the SDGs have targets and indicators that relate to access to ICT and the internet. Digital technologies can play a central role to support the provision of social goods such as healthcare\, education\, and economic income. However\, digitalization can also undermine the aim of sustainability. The production\, use and discharge of the involved technologies have detrimental environmental impacts\, the digital economy can exacerbate inequalities\, and the digital social space may have harmful consequences. This pose demands to both the IS research field\, to IS practice and the wider society to resolve how we together can create sustainable digital futures. In this conference we propose to take stock of the progress towards sustainable digital futures and to stimulate debate on how to reach the SDGs. We intend to both inspire and challenge ourselves as academics by inviting IS practitioners and companies to showcase solutions to sustainability challenges\, and to challenge researchers to address core and urgent questions towards sustainable digital futures. \n  \nFor more information\, please visit the conference website.

DESCRIPTION:The annual ISCRAM conference is held each May and it provides the opportunity for researchers and practitioners from across the world to meet and share their expertise in the design\, development\, and implementation of information systems that are focused on improving the management of crises and disaster situations. \nThe ISCRAM Association\, which sponsors the annual conference\, is a vibrant international community of researchers and practitioners. It is dedicated to providing free access to the full proceedings of each annual ISCRAM conference through the ISCRAM digital library. \nDue to the travel restrictions and limitations on large gatherings caused by the COVID-19 pandemic\, and the likelihood that such limitations will persist in some form through the end of May 2021\, the ISCRAM Board and the ISCRAM 2021 conference organizers have decided that it will be best to present ISCRAM 2021 as an interactive virtual event rather than in its traditional face-to-face format. \nMore details about the format of the actual conference will be posted as they become available\, along with information about the various opportunities that will be provided for dynamically interacting with the ISCRAM community during the event. The conference also includes keynote presentations by experts in the field\, along with a series of interactive workshops and technology demonstration sessions\, and a doctoral student consortium. The ISCRAM Association is particularly interested in the participation of students and other attendees from developing countries. \nThe annual ISCRAM conference has traditionally alternated its location between Europe and the Americas\, with previous conferences being held in Belgium (Brussels: 2004 & 2005)\, New Jersey (Newark: 2006)\, the Netherlands (Delft: 2007)\, Washington DC (2008)\, Sweden (Gothenburg: 2009)\, Washington (Seattle: 2010)\, Portugal (Lisbon: 2011)\, Canada (Vancouver: 2012)\, Germany (Baden-Baden: 2013)\, Pennsylvania (State College: 2014)\, Norway (Kristiansand: 2015)\, Brazil (Rio de Janeiro: 2016)\, France (Albi: 2017)\, New York (Rochester: 2018)\, and Spain (Valencia: 2019). \nISCRAM also supports several regional conferences such as ISCRAM-med\, which was held most recently in Greece in October 2017\, and ISCRAM Asia Pacific\, which was held in New Zealand in November 2018. \nC³M continues hosting the “Practitioner-centered Logistics and Supply Chain Management in Crisis Response” \nLogistics and supply chain management play a major role for the effectiveness of crisis response operations. Information systems can significantly support and improve the performance of disaster relief logistics. However\, there is a need to improve the freshness\, effectiveness\, appropriateness\, and accessibility of information and communication systems intended to facilitate logistics and supply chain management in the face of devastating disasters. Such improvements cannot be driven by cutting-edge technologies alone\, but they must be based on an in-depth understanding of the practitioner realities and the decision maker’s needs. Therefore\, humanitarian information systems need to be examined critically\, both from scientific and practitioner perspectives. \nThe objective of this track is to present\, discuss and reflect upon practitioner-centered contributions to the design\, application and evaluation of information systems for logistics and supply chain management in the area of crisis management. For this purpose\, potential contributions have to provide rigorous research methods and relevant approaches reflecting the practitioner’s realities. To ensure an appropriate balance of both criteria\, humanitarian logistics practitioners will be involved in the review process. Each submission will receive feedback by recognized experts from the respective scientific disciplines and the application domain. \nThe track “Practitioner-centered Logistics and Supply Chain Management in Crisis Response” combines a classical track format as provided during the logistics tracks at the last three ISCRAM editions and additional input of humanitarian logistics practitioners. Thus\, for each submission at least one practitioner review per submission will be provided on the top of the regular review process. The practitioner reviews will be provided thanks to the active support of the Humanitarian Logistics Association. SUMMARY:ISCRAM 2019 in Valencia\, Spain
DESCRIPTION:16th International Conference on Information Systems for Crisis Response and Management\n\n\n\n\n\n\nISCRAM is a forum where researchers and practitioners from all around the world meet every year to share experiences and raise challenges in all the aspects related to the design\, development\, and use of information systems to improve the management of crisis and disaster situations. \nDuring the last editions of the conference\, we have assisted to the emergence of new types of actors that\, in one way or another\, have influenced the way the responses to emergencies are performed nowadays\, especially from the knowledge management perspective. We refer to the citizens immersed in the emergency\, whom\, using their mobile phones or other computing devices are valuable information sources about the context of the emergency. Very interesting publications about this topic can be found at the ISCRAM Digital Library.  However\, little work has been done so far exploring the possibility of providing context-driven\, personalized emergency response services to citizens. Depending of their particular situation\, different citizens may require different attention. Thus\, intelligent context processing can be the driving force to improve the effectiveness of teams in providing help to the people suffering an emergency. Something similar can be said about responders facing specific contexts for their performance.\nTo enforce the discussion about the above and other related topics\, we propose the following theme for the conference: “Towards individual-centric emergency management systems”.  This theme has several derivatives\, like the ones listed below: \nWhat are the requirements of personalized response support systems?\nHow should emergency plans be adapted to fit these requirements?\nWhat services should be provided by individual-centric emergency management systems?\nHow can personalization help response teams and/or citizens?\nHow would citizens be integrated in emergency management teams?\nWhat improvements can citizens bring to emergency management?\nCase studies/real-life experiences \n We look forward to receiving contributions dealing with some of the above topics\, as well as other covering the wide spectrum of crisis response and management. ICT-DM’2017 aims to bring together academics and practitioners who are involved in emergency services\, ad hoc planning and disaster management and recovery\, in order to learn about the latest research developments\, share experiences and information about this area and develop recommendations. \nWe invite you to submit your original technical papers and demos to this event. \nAccepted and presented papers will be published in the conference proceedings and submitted to IEEE Xplore as well as other Abstracting and Indexing (A&I) databases. Authors of selected papers from ICT-DM 2017 will be invited to submit an extended and improved version to a special issue of the International Journal of Information Technology and Management (see also our recent Special Issue in the IJITM). DESCRIPTION:C³M co-chairs the track Logistics and Supply Chain Management in Crisis Response\nSince its establishment in 2004\, the ISCRAM association has aimed to bring together people from various culture\, knowledge and background to design and develop information systems that improve our capacity to avoid\, prepare for\, respond to and recover from crises\, disasters and catastrophes. The ISCRAM world conference is one of the main events for ISCRAMers to exchange and share to try to reach this goal. DESCRIPTION:What is Humanitarian Networks & Partnerships Week (HNPW)?\n\n\n\n\n\nHosted by the Swiss Government and co-chaired by the UK’s Department of International Development (DFID) and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA)\, the HNPW provides a space for humanitarian networks and partnerships to hold their annual meetings. While these are invitation only\, Wednesday 8th February is an open-door problem-solving event for experienced humanitarian responders. \nThis year\, HNPW will take place from 6-10 February 2017 at the International Conference Centre (CIGC) in Geneva. \nWho is it for? \nMonday\, Tuesday\, Thursday and Friday of the week are reserved for networks and partnerships meetings. \nWednesday the 8th February is open to all humanitarian experts\, whether or not they are affiliated to a network. SUMMARY:First IFIP Conference on Information Technology in Disaster Risk Reduction
DESCRIPTION:C³M presenting a paper at the ITDRR 2016\nITDRR-2016 provides an international forum for researchers and practitioners to present their latest R&D findings and innovations. The conference is especially focused on the various IT aspects and challenges of copying with disaster risk reduction. ITDDR-2016 invites experts\, researchers\, academicians and all other who are interested to disseminate their work. The conference establishes an academic environment that fosters the dialogue and exchange of ideas between different levels of academic\, research\, business and public communities. Together with the Roberto Rocha from the research group of Prof. Joao Porto de Albuquerque at the University of São Paulo the C³M will present a paper on engaging technical volunteers in context of crisis management.
